Apparently it’s a common occurence that the Nikon EN-EL25 battery shows up as dead when you leave it lying about for a while and then try to charge it. The Nikon charger blinks fast and refuses to charge. I tried leaving the battery in for 2 days without luck. This reddit thread had the answer: Put the battery in the camera and plug it into a PC USB port for a few hours, maybe take it out and put it back in a few times. If the camera shows a green light upon insertion, you can charge it normally again.
I guess this is the premium quality you only get with original manufacturer parts.
